North Shore
Grandma Chang was scolding us the night before. She'd told us not to go out surfing, since we could be bitten by sharks. Andrew and I could only soberly look at her and nod, knowing very well that the threat of a shark attack would not keep us from the ocean. We even told her that sharks can sense vibrations in the water, and are attracted by the jerky movements of a fish in its death throes, not just by the mere presence of a human who might be a little pasty and tasty.
Our logic, of course, did nothing to convince her.
Nor, for that matter, did that stupid headline in the morning's newspaper help our cause any. That's ok. We still went. We still had a blast. She still scolded us over the Korean food she bought us for dinner later that night :)
